My Guide to Loving Relationships

 The Jesus Prayer Diet
Back to Full Blog

The early church elders (I don't call them "Fathers" because Jesus said for us not to address any man as such) were true spirituals. You won't find their teachings in western churches. So, we are ill-equipped for spiritual battle. But, these ancient elders knew how to defeat passions of the flesh and secret thoughts of the heart, along with the fiery darts (evil thoughts) that bombard us daily from demonic forces. We can overcome these with the Jesus prayer and turn our heart and mind back to God to sit continually in His presence. Interior prayer is possible regardless what exercise or work our outside body might be engaged in or what unpleasant circumstances we may find ourselves in. We just have to learn how to do it. Paul commanded, "Pray without ceasing." This must be possible or he would never have commanded we do it.

My addiction is sugar (sweets). I eat and drink sugar continually for energy and for a high. But the bottom is deep and when I come down, I am exhausted! Not to mention how bad it is for me and my body! But, since I have been praying the Jesus prayer, sweets have become repulsive to me! I'm serious. Food is no longer a struggle. I have lost several pounds. I moved my belt up one notch just this morning! It is amazing. I'm calling it the Jesus prayer diet!

The ancient elders taught us to stop eating while still hungry and to eat humble food, not rich food. So, I have almost completely come off of rich deep-fried food and meat. I eat it very seldom. And, even then, very small portions. I have always had a problem with digestion and abstaining from rich food and large portions (especially large meat portions) seems to have fixed my digestion problems!

Discover the amazing power that defeats personal demons in our lives. The Name of Jesus has real power and praying continually keeps us in God's presence continually. This is a true out-of-this-world experience as we continue to be in this world.

Pray. Unceasingly.

Theo,

Can I just tell you how much I LOVED that e-mail you sent me about praying the Jesus prayer? It is AWESOME! I told my husband and my son about it. I'm just going to do it all the time now. I've done it before (like I said, usually when I see those flashing lights behind me ) but not like this. You are right, it is a life changer! I am ALL about changing my life!

I TOTALLY agree with what you said about the sugar........oh my goodness, jelly beans............... . I don't even want the donuts or cookies. There might be something HEALTHY........like an EGG, or some MILK! Just give me the STRAIGHT SUGAR, baby! Did I tell you before that sugar causes arthritis? Yep. My grandmother told me that when I was 15 and I just thought she was harping on my weight again, just like my mother. Well, she was right after all. Sugar is bad, bad, bad.

Well, when I was on my fast last winter, right when I met you, God told me that I wouldn't be impulsive about my food choices anymore. That everything I put in my mouth would be my choice. God wants to free us, doesn't He Theo? It is for FREEDOM Christ has set us free, not to be enslaved by that yoke of slavery! Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Let's not go back to Egypt, Theo. Let's make it ALL THE WAY to the Promised Land!

PoH, oh I absolutely agree. If we cannot crucify the lusts of the flesh, then God died for nothing. The key is that we have no power of our own to do this. We need Jesus and we need the Holy Spirit. We also need a healthy diet of good writings and good teachings. The ancient elders knew the path to holiness and instructed well. So did the apostles and Jesus. In John 14, Jesus says, "If you love me, keep my commandments." But, it is not translated properly. Here's how it seems to appear in the real language of the Bible, Greek: "If you love me, guard my precepts." Precepts were his teachings. The thoughts that he passed on to them while he was with them.

The problem is that we are bombarded daily by evil thoughts. One of those is lust. There is greed, larceny, theft, lying, and thoughts like these that enter our heart when it is wide open. Praying the Jesus prayer closes our hearts to these and puts us right in the throneroom of God. That's where we were created to be! That's where we were before The Fall! We need to go back there in unceasing prayer of the heart.

So, don't delay. Go home today! Start the Jesus prayer and pray continually! I dare you! Just try, if you dare. If you desire to be free from the passions of sin, have power to destroy sin, and desire the constant presence of the King!

Of course, if you don't...well, good luck with that next evil thought.

June, I'm so glad to hear that you are sharing. As I said, these teachings and writings are not known in the West. We need to let Christians know there is real help available, and real power in the Name of Jesus and unceasing prayer.

You will be richly blessed for sharing.

PoH, thank you for that. I had to think long. I just can't accept any Christian church's acceptance of religious titles when Jesus spoke plainly and said, "It will not be so among my disciples." Titles are so presumptive. Yet, we do find names used in Scripture descriptive of that part of the body and how it serves in the body. Just because a finger is over a toe does not give it authoritarian control! Neither should elders or shepherds place themselves above others. Yes, Scripture does teach we are to be submissive to our elders but that doesn't mean elders become dictators with God's permission. That's usurping the authority of Christ and taking HIS place in relation to the Body of Christ. And, the Body of Christ is not a some freak with two heads! We have one head, Jesus! And, none other. AMEN?

Gettin' a little radical in your old age, are ya Theo?

And we thought we were 'radical' back in the seventies, didn't we?

Just goes to show how much we don't know and how we won't arrive until we've arrived.

Hey Theo

I just stopped by to say HI - it has been a while but I have been so busy working in the yard and replacing plants and we finished today. I am so tired that the first thing I wanted was some "sugar" - but I had a beer and that was so good on our hot 82 degree day.

California is beautiful right now and God is blooming everywhere. Anyway - I just wanted you to know that I still admire you and love to stop by and just shoot the love - Take care my friend.

Hello Theo, and here I thought I would stop by to TAG you and I loved your post. We had in service at school yesterday and it was on a program called "CATCH." It is about eating and exercising, and there your post was, just calling out to me. Thank you for reaffirming the so important subject of keeping healthy of body and soul.

Now about this TAG thing!

FROM HEIDE'S BLOG: "Bookworm tagged Lookin and she posted 5 things that she HAS HEARD AND NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Then she tagged 4 people.. Lookin tagged SAMMYJO, HEIDE, REV AND RUBY13.

Now I have tagged. RITA B. POH, Karen, and MR. ORNERY!!!!!!"

Now my turn to TAG 4 other people. Ummm, who will they be? I think,
Chells, Theo, Mindpower (Hailey), and Sr William.

Theo, have a wonderful week. Say hello to the family for me.

We have all been anxious about our dear friend Donna and the unborn twins. A lot of prayers have been said on their behalf. You are so right. Pray without ceasing, but of course we are told to do so through God's Word.

Love, Karen

PS, I bet it has been crazy out your way with the antique show once again upon us. I usually don't go out there because of the traffic of cars and humanity.
